Walleye Opener vs. Mother's Day
With a change in the law back in 1989, Minnesota's walleye opener weekend -- nearly a holiday in the state -- is often at odds with Mother's Day plans. For some, that may create a bit of family tension this weekend -- to fish or to celebrate with Mom.
I have a cabin on the north end of Leech Lake on Sucker Bay. I primarily fish for walleye, perch, bass and northern pike, but also enjoy hunting for muskie. I particularly enjoy hard-water angling and try to get out on the ice as much as possible.
